Termite Control Phoenix

Because termites cause billions of damage to homes and commercial buildings every year, you can imagine that a lot of these homes will be getting the “tent-treatment.” Every year homes, schools and commercial structures are tent-fumigated to control termite infestations. Important preparation must be done prior to the tenting, in order to protect all personal property, foodstuffs, pets as well as landscaping Preparing for your fumigation will ensure the effectiveness of this treatment.

How to Prep!

Prepping your house for termite treatment is not difficult, but it will take between 2 to 3 hours, depending on how large your house is.

What You Will Need

You’ll need to have the following items on hand:

  • Dishes with lids – this is for storing foodstuffs
  • Plastic bins or totes for linens and non-perishables
  • Plastic covers or sheets – this will go over mattresses and children’s furniture
  • Garden Shears
  • Garden Rake
  • Garden Hose that has an outdoor bib or hookup
  • Pliers and Hammer
  • Flashlight
  • Keys to all locked household items
  • Secured lodging for at least 2 days

How to Prepare

Before you leave the house for the fumigation, you’ll want to do the following:

  • Open all rooms, cabinets, desks, closets, attic hatches and safes – make sure they are also unlocked, if they happen to close
  • Move all food from refrigerators, freezers, pantries and storage closets off-site
  • Remove linen from beds, mattresses, sleeping pads and closets off-site
  • Raise blinds and drapes – this will allow easy access for the fumigator when it comes time for the aeration process
  • Turn off all gas flames and pilot lights – this would need to be done for fireplaces and appliances such as water heaters, ovens, furnaces, refrigerators, washers, and dryers
  • Remove all pets – including fish and houseplants
  • Trim outdoor plants – they should be a minimum of 12″ distance from the structure’s exterior
  • Rake rock, gravel, bark, and landscape mulch to a minimum distance of 12″ from the structure’s exterior. Detach fences that make contact with the structure
  • Provide a set of keys to the exterior doors and any gate keys to the fumigator. They will secure the structure once the tent is removed.
